New Music: The M Machine Presents Metropolis Part 1

by rec.rew.rev on April 24, 2012

At long last, San Francisco-based trio The M Machine release part I of their Metropolis EP on OWSLA—a stellar six track production aesthetically based on 1927 German expressionist Sci-Fi film known by the same name! Those of you who came out to The M Machine @ Ritual | February 2, 2012 with THEKNWLDG.com know firsthand what this ‘three-man-band’ is capable of and will be supremely pleased with the entrancing quality of this dark, Indie-influenced electrohouse album. Also well known in the Bay Area under their previous alias as the Pance Party, Andrew Coenen, Ben Swardlick, and Eric Luttrell have finally cemented themselves in their new form.

While not directly a storytelling EP in terms of recounting the plot of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, instead the trio has adapted the aesthetic and sentiment of the film’s atmosphere into songs like ‘Deep Search, ‘Faces,’ and ‘Black’ that affectively transport the listener through the ambience of the workers underground. The amazing remix of the familiar female vocals from a previously released track into the pulse-pounding EP finisher ‘Shadow in the Rose Garden’ itself is reason enough for you to pick this album up yourself! The M Machine is scheduled to release part II of the EP later this year. But, for the time being, like them on Facebook, listen to the tracks below, and, don’t forget, hit up Beatport or iTunes to buy the EP!

The M Machine – Immigrants

The M Machine – Deep Search

The M Machine – A King Alone

The M Machine – Faces

The M Machine – Black

Photos: Dubsmack 2 Year Anniversary Party @ Ritual (Ottawa) | April 13, 2012

by KNWLDG on April 17, 2012

On Friday the 13th of April we celebrated a mark that hadnt really sunk in before looking through the long list of artists that we have welcomed to Dubsmack. The big mark was 2 years of operation. Thats 730 days, 104 week, or 17 520 hours of monthly bass madness! This makes Dubsmack the longest running monthly dubstep party in the city and for this we would like to thank you – all our loyal followers – for contributing your time, sweat, blood, and energy that has made Dubsmack the famed monthly party that it is!

For everyone who came out to celebrate the big milestone, you were lucky enough to catch Love Thy Brother‘s first performance in some time in our nations capital. Though both Liam and Conor are working on projects outside of their Love Thy Brother alias – Ain’t No Love and Wavo.me respectively – when they come together to work on a project, whether a remix or a venue performance, it should not be missed! As per usual in proper Dubsmack fashion, residents Rainman and Dubspec held down the early slots. Our new youngblood photographer Roman was also in attendance to capture the night through his lens and provide us with a recap. So without further adieu click the link just below to check out the flicks!

Photos: Adventure Club at Ritual | March 29, 2012

by KNWLDG on April 1, 2012

Without a doubt, this third appearance of Adventure Club in Ottawa was by far the sweatiest, craziest, and bassiest. After cramming as many people as we could inside the confines of Ritual, and following the thrilling opening sets from Noble and our main man Rainman it was time for the Montreal natives to take stage. By 12:45 the stage had been over run by #bassfiends and space became limited forcing Adventure Club to the top of Ritual’s big white Red Bull DJ booth numerous times as well as to hurl themselves into the people of champagne drenched enthusiasts that lined the front row and pushed back against the big metal barriers. There are few words that can adequately describe the pandamonium that took place this past Thursday, so thankfully we had Roman, one of our new photographers, and Chris of Captivatethem out to capture the nights events for everyone with hazy memories. A full album will be up on our Facebook Page soon, but for now click the link below to see a few of our favorites from both photographers.

Much love goes out to everyone who came out and partied with us. After having breakfast with Leighton and Christian, we are positive that they will be back again soon as part of their next big tour so stay tuned with us for when we announce the date! For now our next event on the horizon is the 2 Year Anniversary of Dubsmack w. Love Thy Brother of Saintwoods/Montreal/Earmilk.com. If you act quick you will be able to get your hands on one of the 200 free tickets that the Dubsmack organizers are giving away to show their appreciation to their many loyal followers for helping to reach 950 likes on the Dubsmack Facebook Page.

by KNWLDG on March 27, 2012

This Thursday marks the third and most anticipated appearance in Ottawa for the massive dubstep duo, Adventure Club. Over the past few months since the guys last came to our fine city they have been bouncing around North America throwing down in front of sold out crowds ranging from the hundreds and far beyond. On this journey they have taken the stage with the likes of Porter Robinson, The M Machine, Krewella, Big Gigantic, and many more. If you missed out on their previous to performances don’t let this be the third time. Thankfully from those two shows we were left with an array of photos but also two videos recapping the night and an interview which you can check out below if you are aching for an Adventure Club fix this very second.

Tickets will be available at the door! Even though tickets are no longer available online, we have saved around 70 tickets to be sold at the door on the night of the event, so if you have slept on getting yours in advance, be sure to arrive early and cop yours.

Opening the night up will be our killer resident, Rainman (11 – 12:30) and youngblood Noble (10 – 11) from Calgary.
