Breaking News: Love Thy Brother To Headline Dubsmack 2 Year Anniversary Party!

We are happy to finally announce the headliner for the 2 year anniversary celebration of Dubsmack, the famed monthly electrohouse and dubstep party in Canada’s capital, Ottawa. To honour the big night Montreal duo Love Thy Brother will be making their way to town for their first ever time taking the decks at Dubsmack. Due to the groups close proximity to Ottawa it comes with no surprise that their sound and name is well recognized and has been demanded heavily over the past 2 years of Dubsmack and finally for everyone who has been asking, here is your wish being granted. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Love Thy Brother you have likely heard their tracks on various music blogs such as Earmilk – where they are bloggers – and here on THEKNWLDG. The two most recent releases that LTB has posted on their Soundcloud have gotten massive exposure and the highest number of plays any of their tracks have ever received – likely due to the fact that their productions hover on the line of electrohouse and dubstep bringing forth a unique and addictive sound. Modestep Releases New Official Music Video for, “Show Me A Sign”, on UKF

Just yesterday the UK based dubstep group Modestep released their latest music video for their track “Show Me A Sign” on the massive youtube channel and movement, UKF. The video features 4 heroines doing battle with the commercial music industry as depicted by pig headed creatures, and protected by a rabid beaver-squirrel guarding the dark side of commercial music which turns out to be a CD spitting pig headed robot. In the end the heroines are triumphant after they rise from the ground on a massive set of subs with a Modestep logo in the middle and the bass from the speakers forces the robots head to rip from its torso and erupt in blood and guts. The track is pretty dope too…

Friday March 9th marked two big points in history. The first was the fact that it was the first time Rainman has headlined the famed monthly party, Dubsmack, since it launch in April of 2010, and second was the massive release of Rainman’s new 5 track, all original EP titled “This Is Rainman”. As was to be expected with the high anticipation of the release of Rainman’s new EP, and his return to the headlining spot at the monthly party he help give birth to, Dubsmack March, our 23rd edition was a massive success. As per usual we must thank everyone who came out and showed their support, grabbed one of the free EPs that were being given out at the show, and/or picked up their copy online via our Soundcloud. It’s awesome seeing every month how Dubsmack keeps getting bigger and bigger and to everyone who comes out every month we are stoked to call you all part of our growing Dubsmack family!

This Friday is not only another highly anticipated edition of the famed monthly party Dubsmack, but also a celebration of new sounds for your earholes. Dubsmack resident, Rainman, will be releasing his much awaited new EP, “This Is Rainman”, at the event and to show our love for everyone in attendance we will be giving out 100 free copies at the end of the night so if you aren’t going home with a lady/guy you have something to take home. The EP will consist of 5 original tracks from the Vancouver native titled, Me Gusta, Bounce, House Music, Something More, and Rhodes. To give you all a little taste of how the EP and March 9th at Dubsmack will sound, Rainman put together a little mini mix featuring clips of all 5 tracks which you can preview right here…

Tonight: Red Bull Music Academy Invades Junxion (Ottawa) with Martyn & Egyptrixx

Red Bull Music Academy in conjunction with local promoters and artists on their way up such as Martyn and Egyptrixx in this case, have been travelling around city to city spreading good music and information about this years Red Bull Music Academy project that will cap off in New York City. Tonight is Ottawa’s turn to get a brief introduction to how the academy operates and to get their name on an application for the chance to partake in one of the two 2-week seminars in NYC.
“The Red Bull Music Academy is an international workshop that was founded in 1998, and touches down in a different city each year. Over two week ‘terms’, some of the finest purveyors of rhythm and sound from all over the world gather between the Academy’s walls. Two groups of successful applicants, themselves representing a diverse range of music styles and methodologies, attend lectures by musical pioneers, and work on their own tunes in custom-built studios. By night, they have the chance to perform in some of the host city’s most iconic clubs and concert halls.
Interested producers, musicians, DJs, instrumentalists, and vocalists can download an application form from the Academy website from February 2, 2012 and send it off with a selection of their tunes by April 2, 2012. “
The session starts at 7pm and performances 3 hours later at 10pm. All is going down at Junxion (15 George St, Ottawa) so grab dinner and then head straight over whether you are an aspiring producer, have the slightest desire to get into music, or are a full blown 24/7 music maker that does nothing but sleep, eat and produce.
